Olympic Community of Health presents the Coffee Break Video Series, addressing local health issues through community conversations and shared cups of coffee.
This video series brings bite sized conversations (in 15 minutes or less) discussing health challenges directly to your screen. We invite you to grab a cup of coffee or tea and join us as we dive into the first topic: presence of substance use disorder stigma. This video features the perspective and experience of Anya Callahan (Social Worker and Community Advocate) and Brian Burwell (SUD Counselor at Suquamish Tribe Wellness Center).
We are incredibly inspired and grateful for Anya and Brian as they vulnerably share their own personal experiences with this topic. They both serve as wonderful examples of how to foster a recovery friendly Olympic region. Check out the discussion questions below to help guide engagement with the video.
Ideas to engage with this video:
1. Have your team watch the short video (independently or host a viewing party) and come together to discuss. These videos are open for public use. Some suggested discussion questions are:
What resonates with you?
How have you seen stigma of substance use disorder show up in your community?
What role does language and bias have in regards to the perpetuation of stigma?
Where are there opportunities for partnership and/or a collaborative approach to address stigma?
What are some sources of hope and inspiration?
2. Host an OCH staff member to share the video and facilitate a group discussion with your team.
3. Connect with OCH (och@olympicch.org) to share how your team are creatively addressing stigma. We would love to share your work with the region.
